Decoratring on a Budget Using Mirrors

As we all try to simplify our lives, too often our homes’ appearance moves lower and lower on our list of priorities. When we finally do get around to decorating, too often our budgets are already drained. So, how do we take care of those bare walls without breaking the bank? An easy and inexpensive solution is to use decorative mirrors.
Using mirrors in your décor offer many advantages. Often, a well sized mirror costs less than a quality framed print and many of us are downsizing to smaller homes, mirrors create the illusion of space to make our smaller homes seem more spacious. Here are a few tips for incorporating mirrors into your ideas for home decorating.
1. Highlighting a Focal Point: Use a framed mirror over a fireplace to draw attention to the focal point of the room. By adding matching accents to the mantel below such as candleholders or silk plants, adds instant depth, making the room seem larger.
2. Creating Wall Art: Instead of a large framed print, use a large decorative mirror instead. It will reflect the colors in the room, adding the perfect touch of color. Adding decorative candle sconces on either side make this idea a real eye catcher.
3. Create a Collage: Framed family portraits are a beautiful addition to a room, but can be a little lacking in the style category. Create an artistic wall collage by decorating a wall with framed photos of various sizes broken up by decorative mirrors of similar sizes, but different shapes. If the photos and frames are rectangular, use round mirrors throughout the display to add style and character.
4. Think off the Wall: If you love scented candles, display your favorite candleholders and scented pillars on a decorative mirror. When lighted, the flickering candlelight is amplified. This simple idea gives the look of luxury without the huge price tag.
These are just a few ideas for decorating on a budget by using decorative mirrors to create a look of spacious and stylish luxury. Perhaps now we can all take our ideas for home decorating and place them a little higher up on our priority list.
